A “postmodern” audition call; two Saturday night cabarets.

Burlesque for a cause, this Saturday night.

This weekend, Jet City Burlesque presents a big, big lineup in an intimate setting. Bear-ly Naked Cabaret (hosted by “Miss Yum Yum Gimme Some”, Sydni Deveraux) will take over the Baltic Room on Saturday, January 15 in a benefit for PAWS. Lily Verlaine- back from other philanthropic endeavors in which she used her magnificent assets to gather donations for the Burlesque Hall of Fame- performs alongside belly dance queen Fuchsia FoXXX, Paris Original, and Iva Handfull. Belle Cozette is rumored to be reviving one of her first acts, and Hottie McNaughty and Pinky Shines will be on hand to raffle off prizes such as a three night stay at Roscoe’s Ranch (Best of Western Washington’s winning dog boarding facility) as well as a rhinestone necktie by Haute Under the Collar (Iva Handfull and Miss Elaine Yes’s glam-it-up shop). PAWS rehabilitated at least eight bear cubs last year- it costs an average of $70 per week just to feed them. Orphaned and injured wildlife need help just as much as homeless cats and dogs; Jet City Burlesque turns the focus to this aspect of PAWS with this weekend’s benefit. There’s nothing sexier than a big heart- go out and flaunt what you’ve got.

Late this Saturday night, The Swedish Housewife begins her triumvirate of Mezzo Lunatico productions housed by Teatro Zinzanni. Everything Paula touches turns to gold- I’d suggest double booking your Saturday night. For tickets and to see what Paula has in store for the late night cabaret, click HERE. Hint hint: Miss Astrid…need I say more?

And about that casting call….

Think you have what it takes to be in a hard working troupe? Ever daydream about being in Fame? There’s an open audition in a few weeks that aspiring burlesque starlets won’t want to miss. Stripped Screw, who threw down this year with some amazing postmodern shows like What to Wear to the Apocalypse and Paradise Glossed, have released the following call:

After an incredibly successful inaugural year, Stripped Screw Burlesque is expanding! Stripped Screw Burlesque likes to keep a sharp edge. Focusing on the movement and the meaning behind it, we are not all about glam. Call us raw, call us gritty, call us whatever you like. We like to think of what we do as postmodern burlesque.

We are looking to add some bright new burlesque talent to our ranks. Auditions will be held Saturday, February 5th from 1-7pm at TPS (aka upstairs at the Seattle Center House, 4th floor).

Male and Female performers welcome.
We are looking for performers with:
• A solid dance background;
• Some burlesque experience (preferred, though not required);
• The desire to be part of a troupe:
• The ability to fulfill troupe responsibilities as well as personal booking responsibilities;
• The capacity to work well with others;
• An imaginative and creative Burlesque point of view.

We are also open to performers with musical and acting backgrounds, but some dance training is a must. Please send your headshot and performance bio/resume to strippedscrew@gmail.com.

Come prepared to learn and perform a bit of choreography and with a solo act (preferably burlesque, but can be any type of act) to perform. If you are interested in attending the auditions but can only attend for part of the time allotted, please let us know and we will try to accommodate your schedule.
